The Baltoro Glacier is the approach route to K2, Broad Peak and the Gasherbrums. Trekking its length to Concordia is one of the world's classic high-mountain journeys.

Trip overview

The Baltoro is a moving highway of ice, 63 kilometres long, walled by some of the most famous rock and snow peaks on Earth. Walking it to Concordia is the core of the K2 experience.

This trek focuses on the glacier itself and the Concordia amphitheatre. It shares the classic Baltoro route and suits trekkers who want the Karakoram's showpiece scenery with expert local support.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1 to 3

    Islamabad to Askole

    Briefing, transfer to Skardu and jeep to the trailhead.

  2. Day 4 to 6

    Askole to Paiju

    Trek along the Braldu to Jhola and Paiju with an acclimatisation day.

  3. Day 7 to 9

    Onto the Baltoro

    Khoburtse, Urdukas and Goro II on the glacier.

  4. Day 10

    Concordia

    Reach Concordia (4,600 m) with K2 in full view.

  5. Day 11 to 15

    Return trek

    Retrace the Baltoro to Askole over several days.

  6. Day 16 to 17

    Return to Islamabad

    Jeep to Skardu and fly or drive back.

Difficulty & fitness

Requires a Pakistan visa with LOI, a trekking permit and Central Karakoram National Park fees, all arranged by us.

Where does the Baltoro Glacier trek go?

It follows the Baltoro Glacier from Askole to Concordia (4,600 m), beneath K2, Broad Peak, the Gasherbrums, Trango Towers and Masherbrum.

Is the Baltoro trek the same as K2 Base Camp?

They share the same glacier route to Concordia. The K2 Base Camp trip adds the final walk to base camp at 5,150 m; both are run by our team.

How fit do I need to be?

Fit enough for 5 to 7 hour days on uneven glacier ice at altitude across two weeks. Prior multi-day trekking is strongly recommended.

When is the best season?

Mid-June to mid-September, with July and August the most reliable for weather and glacier conditions.

What will I see at Concordia?

Concordia is a glacial junction ringed by four 8,000 m peaks, including a direct view of K2. It is the scenic climax of the trek.
