Baltoro Glacier Trek
The Baltoro Glacier is the approach route to K2, Broad Peak and the Gasherbrums. Trekking its length to Concordia is one of the world's classic high-mountain journeys.
Karakoram, Gilgit-Baltistan
Concordia is the glacial junction where the Baltoro and Godwin-Austen glaciers meet at around 4,600 m, ringed by K2, Broad Peak, and the Gasherbrums. The walk up the Baltoro to reach it is a Karakoram classic.

The Baltoro Glacier is one of the longest glaciers outside the polar regions, running roughly 63 km through the heart of the Karakoram. Trekkers follow it from the village of Askole, past granite spires and seracs, deeper into a landscape almost nobody drives to. This is real expedition-style trekking.
At the far end sits Concordia, at around 4,600 m, where the Baltoro meets the Godwin-Austen Glacier. Early explorers nicknamed it the throne room of the mountain gods, and the name stuck. From here you can see K2, Broad Peak, and Gasherbrum I and II, four of the world's fourteen 8,000 m peaks, standing around you at once.
The trek is not technical, but it is long, cold at night, and high. You camp on the glacier and moraine for several nights. Good acclimatisation, warm gear, and a steady pace matter more than raw fitness. Most fit trekkers who prepare properly do very well.
Many trekkers combine Concordia with a crossing of the Gondogoro La, a glaciated pass of about 5,585 m that adds a dramatic exit and even wider mountain views. This version needs fixed ropes and a mountain guide, both of which we arrange.
International visitors reach the trailhead through Islamabad and Skardu. We manage the trekking permit, porters, camp crew, and a licensed guide, so your job is simply to walk the Baltoro and take it in.
Concordia is the glacial junction at around 4,600 m where the Baltoro and Godwin-Austen glaciers meet in the Karakoram. It is famous for surrounding views of K2, Broad Peak, and the Gasherbrums.
The trek to Concordia and back usually takes about 12 to 16 days, including travel from Skardu and acclimatisation. Adding the Gondogoro La pass extends the itinerary by a few days.
The main trek to Concordia is non-technical but strenuous, with long days on glacier and moraine at high altitude. Only the optional Gondogoro La crossing requires fixed ropes and mountaineering support.
You need solid endurance for long consecutive days above 4,000 m carrying a daypack. Regular hill walking and cardio training for a few months beforehand prepares most trekkers well.
The season runs from June to September, with July and August offering the most stable weather. The glacier and passes are unsafe outside these months due to snow and cold.

The K2 Base Camp trek walks the length of the Baltoro Glacier to Concordia and the foot of K2 (8,611 m). It is the classic Karakoram adventure and the trip most foreign trekkers ask us about first.

This is the advanced version of the K2 trek. Instead of retracing the Baltoro, you cross the Gondogoro La (5,585 m) for a sunrise panorama of K2, Broad Peak and the Gasherbrums, then descend into the Hushe valley.
